Understanding Google Chrome Through Comics
Excellent comic available on the Google site that explains the thinking behind Chrome, their new browser that is not yet available for Mac. [Dang! I am still waiting for Lively for Mac!] I recognized Scott McCloud as the artist immediately. I bought his book Understanding Comics many years ago which I thought was excellent. It was not just a comic book that explained comics, but instead it used the comic genre as a postmodern art-form and tool for explaining everything. Totally worth the read. And worth thinking about - comics in general I mean - as a way of explaining complex things to morons learners that is non-threatening, visually appealing, and fun. Maybe we should have comics for everything!

Agreed!! Thanks for the reminder, I've had Scott McCloud's book on a wish list for nearly 2 years - must get hold of it. I recently read Daniel H Pink's manga style career guide, 'The Adventures of Johnny Bunko'. The fantastic artwork from Rob Ten Pas and sound advice from Pink make for an excellent, if a little unconventional, guide to thinking about that age old question: "What should I do with my life?".

Are you familiar with the Introducing series? Check them out. Amazing books:

They use graphics/cartoons to teach at a remarkable sophisticated level.

[Is nobody else bothered that google seems to be trying to take over everything? - just wondering]

i like google... and from what i understand it's great company to work for... but yeah... it's interesting how much of a mark they are making. Why does it take sooooo long for the good stuff to get to Mac's?

Love it! I love the way the pictures express the software concepts.
And Chrome looks like a clever product too. I'm a hobby web developer, and my main project this year may not have been possible without Google's giving stuff away.

This makes me think of the excitement that I detect in some circles for the Manga Bible. Any comments, thoughts? I like the artwork. This seems to connect with teen boys (and older boys too!)

I used Manga when I taught in Japan. I almost met the guy who made the Manga Bible at Greenbelt Festival but didnt. Sounds great though

I'll second the recommendation of McCloud's Understanding Comics - a great book on many levels and one of them just happens to be comic books.
