I respect Leith Anderson a great deal. His books have been been an inspiration for a long time and I once heard him give a hugely memorable talk on consumerism and the gods of our age. Leith Anderson, Doug Pagitt and a number of us from Young Leaders had a enjoyable lunch together in Minnesota a few years back and I got to throw a few questions at him.
Cant remember what they were, dangitt . . . [LAME!]
Doug was youth pastor at Leith's church [Wooddale] for ten years before starting the Young Leaders group with Leadership Network. Doug doesnt talk much about his association with his former boss - there is a lot of respect going both ways there - but i got the impression from Doug that he wanted the Young Leaders/Emergent Village' to stand on its own feet and to be free to make mistakes without dragging in other leaders.
But I would say that Leith is probably a lot more aware and connected to the emerging church movement in USA than was Ted Haggard. As to the extent of that knowledge and commitment to seeing God's mission happen in the emerging culture, we will just have to wait to hear from Dr. Anderson himself.
